"What if happiness is more than simply the absence of sadness?" asked Martin Seligman in the late nineties. And psychology as we knew it, changed forever.
I'm sure we've all said it. "When X, I'll be happier" and the X could represent everything from a different weight, relationship, bank balance or residential location. And much as we'd like to truly believe this, we cannot deny that this thinking simply perpetuates longer cycles of unhappiness and dissatisfaction.
Science tells us the following:
Happiness doesn't come from genetics luck or chance.
Happiness has a LOT less to do with circumstances than we think it does.
It isn't the result of some big, out of reach event or attainment
Happiness is created by simple, easy things we do, every day
Unhappiness is created by NOT doing those things

There are some incredibly talented and soulful business owners out there who are sacrificing their happiness, every day, in pursuit of the elusive "success status". Sadly, many don't even take the time to define their own success measuring stick - they simply buy in to the pretty pics on social media telling us what that looks like. And it's hard not to, right?
Pretty, smiling faces on beaches, drinking champagne, surrounded by a community of like-minded girlfriends. Is that what your ultimate success looks like? Or does that look so appealing because right now, you feel like you're in quick sand and you have no way of getting out?
If you want your business to grow, successfully and sustainably, then you have to choose happy NOW! Abraham Hicks always reminds us, "We cannot make manifest the thing we truly desire when we are constantly focused on the lack of it!".
I get it, I really do. The first 6 years I was in business I was breathing through the quick sand with a snorkel. I was teetering on the edge of the dark whole of depression. Anxiety was my daily companion and Malbec was my medicine. It wasn't a pretty sight. And it didn't feel good either.
I had to hit rock bottom to realise I had a choice! I could CHOOSE to keep feeling like this which didn't not feel like success at all (no matter how much money I made), or I could DECIDE to carve out a life and business I loved.
So let me help you start making that switch today!

1. Every morning, write down 3 things you are grateful for (different each day)
2. Journal for 2 mins/day for one positive experience in the last 24 hours
3. Meditate daily - even if just for a few minutes
4. Do a random act of kindness each day
5. Exercise for 15 minutes per day
Again, I take this from the insanely good book, The Slight Edge, which was a total game changer for me when I first read it several years ago.

When you're "in it", it's so easy to tell yourself that you can't be happy now "because". But at the basic level, as your reality is a mirror of your energy, you will ALWAYS continue to attract life experiences that keep you feeling separated from joy.
So I invite you to begin just a couple of the exercises mentioned above, and track them over a 30 day period and notice how you feel. In specific relation to your business, I would ask you to consider if you are being productive and effective in the right areas when you are in the energy of anxiety and unhappiness!
REMEMBER: Your future does not need to be a reflection of your past or current circumstances. You have the ability to begin cultivating brand new emotions and frequencies right now, to help you create your successful life way in a more harmonious and aligned way.
